Recommendation 6: Allocate federal funding for interagency cooperation
Problem
Water management in the West is an extremely complex system spanning physical, bureaucratic, and legal boundaries. Additional funding is necessary to ensure the continued availability and quality of municipal water supplies, to support effective inter-state cooperation, and to provide the information, infrastructure, and incentives necessary to support essential operations. A lack of financial resources will result in continued controversies and general “disconnect” throughout a system where regional planning is desperately needed.
Goal
To secure additional funding for interagency collaborations that encourage municipal, federal, state, and tribal governments to collaborate in efficiently managing water resources and developing integrated policies and practices that ease conflict.
Recommendation
Make funding available to support federal, state, tribal, and municipal programs that increase institutional capacities for collaborative management.
