Past Initiatives
Borderlands Biodiversity Corridor – Catalyzed the permanent protection of several large private ranches in northern Sonora, Mexico, and helped establish an endowment to provide for land protection and habitat restoration. (2018-21)
Greater Grand Canyon Landscape Assessment – Led, in cooperation with the National Park Service, a novel approach for assessing resource conditions in Grand Canyon National Park and surrounding public, private and Tribal lands. (2012-16)

Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program – Developed and implemented one of four initial nodes in a national training program for emerging leaders from underrepresented backgrounds. (2013-18)

Conservation Science Partners – Incubated the start-up phase for this NGO, which quickly became a leader in providing research and analysis to empower conservation efforts across the continent. (2012-18)

Oil Sands Moratorium – Organized an interdisciplinary group of scientists to address the enviornmental implications of continuing development of the Canadian tar sands. (2011-18)

Landscape Conservation Initiative – Developed and directed an interdisciplinary research, education, and decision-support team based at Northern Arizona University. (2011-20)

Olajos-Goslow Chair in Environmental Science and Policy – Developed, planned, and served as founding chair of a new endowed professorship, in partnership with an alumna donor to Northern Arizona University. (2010-21)

ForestERA Project – Created a multidisciplinary applied research program to support ecological restoration and fire management in arid forest ecosystems. (2002-11)

Masters of Environmental Science and Policy – Developed, implemented & directed an interdisciplinary M.S. program, in collaboration with political theorist D. Schlosberg. (2000-11)
